RYCC Race Team
Did you ever wish mountain biking was a sport at your school? Well, we have the next best thing!
RYCC operates a composite cross-country mountain biking team of kids in grades 5-12 from Rochester area schools. We compete in races against school teams and other composite teams from across NY state.
No prior racing experience is necessary.
We have youth riders from multiple school districts including the City of Rochester, Brighton, Greece, Fairport, Penfield, Pittsford, Spencerport, as well as Aquinas, Bishop Kearney, and homeschoolers.
Season Format
The NICA NY season runs January through June.
In the earlier months we do indoor conditioning spin classes at Vault Rochester, and outdoor rides whenever the weather allows.
Our race team participates in the two club rides each week with the rest of the RYCC club, plus they do one additional Developmental Training Ride (DTR) each week to focus on advanced skill development and conditioning.
The DTR rides are run by the dedicated DTR coaches. This is a subset of the RYCC coaching staff that focuses on the technical skills required to be competitive in races, and the conditioning required to finish strong.

Race Weekends
Currently there are 20 teams competing from all over NY State. As a result, most of our races require overnight stays. Some of our members choose to camp to stay as close as possible to the venue. Others prefer a hotel or rental house.
There are five races during the season held on Sundays in April, May, and early June. The race course are set up for a practice ride on Saturday, and the weekend includes several fun activities to keep the kids entertained.
We do our best to help with the logistics so as many of our racers can get to each race as possible.

Join the Team
We do our best to help the youth athletes meet their individual goals. For some of our athletes, that means training hard and pushing themselves toward the top of the podium. For others, just getting the courage to show up to the starting line is a major accomplishment.
Whatever your goal on the bike is, you might find racing adds the extra level of excitement to bring biking to the next level.
